Verify that the USB cable is seated into a USB port on the computer and on the scanner.
To improve the image quality, clean the scanner. See the procedures in the Maintenance section of the User's Guide.
A recommended cleaning sequence includes vacuuming the scanner transport, cleaning the residue from the feed module tires, separation roller tires and drive rollers and cleaning the imaging guides.
